Omg their ribeyes are to die for! The take out needs a lot of work but these are kids and they mess things up. Make sure you check your order before you leave.

I love this place. My family and I come here often. It's a great local spot. The service is friendly and the food is some of the best BBQ I have ever had. I ordered the Super Salad. It's full of meat and deliciousness. My husband loves the Hickory fries and ribs are Their ribs are tender and juicy. I highly recommend stopping in and gorging your face.

I really don't understand the negative reviews unless it is someone who has a grudge or is trying to ruin a good business. I have been going here for years and we love it! Everything I have ever ordered has been good right down to the sweet tea. My usual is the beef thrift plate with a salad and baked potato, yummo, but I have had several things and it is all good. The fried pickles are really good and inexpensive. I also personally like the stew. I have ordered takeout many times over the last 16 years and not once has the order been wrong. I would be the first to tell you the order is wrong(the Taco Bell and KFC down the street could not get orders right if they tried)Fries are going to have grease on them, they do everywhere else I have ever gotten them, even the ones I bake in the oven have oil on them. I think picking on the waitresses for their looks is not fair. I know some of the kids that have worked there and they are good kids. If you like barbeque and want to take the whole family out for less than $50, you will be happy with Johnnys... oh and they have a train that goes around the top of the restaurant, little kids love this

  • Tim C.

My wife and are huge fans. We love their salad's and the dressing is out of this world! I am told it's made in house. Also, my grandson loves the big red button to make the train run around the top!

Visited again today, they messed up on my order but having already returned home it wasn't worth going back. I did opt for fries today and they were much better but my sandwiches were supposed to be outside sliced, not inside sliced. How hard is it to get a small order right?

  • Claire H.

Best bbq. I 100% recommend the cheese hickory fries with extra bbq sauce. A great family place to enjoy.

  • Zach W.

This is my favorite to eat. I will literally go 2-3 times a week. You have to get the hickory fries. And a sweet tea. I wouldn't get the hamburger because when I was a kid. I would like to say everything that they have is wonderful

I don't typically write reviews, but after having a bad experience repeatedly, I just have to let other people know. I worked in a restaurant for over 8 years, so it really takes a lot for me to write a bad review. I have given this place the benefit of the doubt many times, and the food continues to be a disappointment. I have been ordering pick-up orders. They have messed up my order on a few occasions. The staff was rude. Ribs were dry. French fries are limp from grease/not cooked properly. Buns were soggy, so I asked for the bun on the side next time-- they put it on top of the meat, thus soggy again. Cole slaw is bland. The barbecue pork is okay. If I can say anything good, the ranch dressing is delicious. The only thing I realized that I can order and not be disappointed is the salad topped with pork. Kind of hard to mess that up though. I don't understand what the big deal is about this place.. Worst bbq I've ever had.

Visited Johnny's on a rainy day for lunch. The place was packed. Their prices are amazing! I had a hamburger ($2.25) and fries ($1.95). To my surprise, the fries are homemade and they tasted very good. My husband had the pork platter which included a pork sandwich (very tasty pulled pork), fries and coleslaw ($5.65). Our server was Shelley and she was very prompt and courteous. Thank you Shelley! We will definitely be back. The country store recalled me of old times. I loved the choo choo train model that goes around the whole restaurant space.

Rick...until you can do a better job with your customer service skills....I'll never be back!!! As a member of the KCBS and a CBJ, I know good cue...ribs are tough, pork is dry, 3 tries on the rib-eye....still no good!!! I've given this place too many chances under this ownership!!! Miss Johnny!!!

This place reminded me of the BBQ places back home in Texas. I had the ribs and chopped beef sandwich. The ribs were really good. Did not need no bbq sauce!! Awesome ribs!! But, the chopped beef sandwich had a strong vinegar taste. I am not a big fan of vinegar bbq. Next time I go there, I will get TWO racks of ribs! The reason I gave it a 4 instead of the 3 was due to the awesome ribs, and due to I did not sample there sausage, and I do not think it would be fair to really penalize them on the vinegar based bbq due to that is an individual taste preference on style of bbq.

Came accross this place by chance. AMAZING! Love the relaxed atmosphere and the food and service was first rate! Will go back again...and again.

I've had just about everything on the menu. I don't go in, always takeout. The restaurant inside is dim and just too much for me. The fries are always greasy but they make up for it with the bbq. I usually order the pork bbq salad. They have some of the best ranch dressing I've tasted.

Pretty good 'cue, but I skip the stew. But that's just me....neighbor loves the stew.

Johnny's Barbecue in Powder Springs has been around a good number of years, though it's changed hands several times during that time. The atmosphere is typical "Old West Cobb". Very rustic and basic inside, with a wait staff that is a cross between the crusty, and girls who Hooters would not hire for whatever reason. Patrons can vary from "city folk" who have moved further into the burbs to avoid the city issues, to entire families dressed in hunting camouflage, fresh back from killing things dead (yeehaw). Sometimes it's fun to put up with the food just to people watch. The food is typical BBQ fare - grilled chicken, BBQ sandwiches, beef, etc. While the meats are ok, the fries may times come out dripping with grease - enough to cause any cardiologist to have a panic attack. I mean.. GREASE. Several people I know locally joke that when they're having problems um, "being regular", they just go to Johnny's and eat the fries and poof - problem solved! I choose not to. Service from the hooters... er.. waitresses, is ok. When it gets busy they get kind of scatterbrained. I've seen worse. When eating in, it's considered by some to be one of those, "well, there's nothing else close by", types of places. The biggest problem is ordering takeout from this place. Of the last several times we've ordered things to-go, there have been mistakes on every single order. Sometimes it may be something as minor as asking for extra sour cream and they actually put less than normal in the bag. Sometimes you order a baked potato (which they seem to run out of regularly) and you get fries instead. A few times you get an item that is entirely different than what you ordered. They also put takeout potatoes (again, when they have them) in your box still wrapped in aluminum foil, and then cut them open from the top - these leaves small aluminum shavings inside the potato... YUM! Just what your digestive track ordered... metal in your intestines! Um... no. Ok, so, the place is cheap, the food won't KILL you (other than metal in your takeout potatoes, that is), and it's not the worst stuff in the world. I just can't rate them any better than this. There are far too many issues with takeout and grease in some of the items to give them more. I give it a "eat at your own risk and I told you so" kind of place.

Carolina Style BBQ. Not really a fan of the watery sauce and fries are way to soggy and greasy.

  • Rosemary M.

Typical bbq for this area. Greasy French fries & thin watery sauce.

Johnny's has been a BBQ icon of powder springs for a long time, even though it's changed owners many times. I have been going there with my dad for about 12 years. Ive never had an experience like I did. Long story short, a waitress who was not very good to begin with, dropped BBQ sauce down my dads $120 shirt, Polo tie, AND pants. The waitress said, "sorry" and that was the extent of it. No wet towel was offered, no manager or owner came out to personally apologize, ANDDD they still charged full price for the meal!! It's SO SO hard to find customer service these days yet again! They just lost 2 customers so MANY years!
